manygoatsnomore, Food is still good. I put it back in the freezer. Since it was at temps of -20 to -40 F, it actually goes into the freezer and "thaws", lol. Well, sleep helped a lot yesterday Not only did we go into work and hour "late", but we also ran out of things to do at 2:30 and were sent home (usually work till 4). So it was a short day. My body was happy. I did start picking up pots by bending my knees and keeping my head in line with my hips. Normally we all just bend over and pick them up. But I had such a nasty sinus headache the day before. My theory was the bending over was a huge factor....major head movements fast. No headache at all yesterday .....and likely will do my thighs and butt some good to do so many "knee bends" every day. lol. So a short day was good as I didn't overwork those muscles first time out(no discomfort today). Beautiful day here, bright and sunny. Still have trees encased in ice, so the sunlight is making them all gorgeous! Add last night's light dusting of snow....and it's post card pretty out!! Should go get laundry started. Have a great day all.

Ohio Dreamer, I kinda thought the food would still be good, but wondered if the freeze dryer might have totally failed and let things warm up. I guess from those temps, it would take a LOOONG time to thaw, lol! Glad to hear you had a shorter day at work, are using some different muscles and feeling better. This is gonna be great for toning up your bum! 😂 Well, it looks like my dog food dilemma is coming to an end today. I took a chance and answered my phone yesterday (usually don't answer numbers I don't know because it's usually either a scammer or a telemarketer), and a very nice gal from a certain feed store was calling to figure out the situation after my shipment was dropped at their store. I'm not mentioning the name of the store, because I have a feeling she could be in trouble if the bosses knew what she did to make the situation right. First of all, she received a pallet with 4 bags of dog food on it, but paperwork that stated 3 bags. Secondly, there was a note in my file stating I'd be returning 3 bags of cat food for a refund. She was really scratching her head! I started from the beginning and explained step by step what had happened. She told me to keep the ONE (not 3) bags of cat food AND processed the refund. She said, "Merry Christmas!", lol. 😁 Then she said that she would personally deliver the 4 bags of dog food to me today with only one condition....she wants to pet my big dogs, lol. She said she's a sucker for really big dogs, and when she heard one of mine was an Anatolian Shepherd, she really got excited! So, at 3pm, I will finally get the 3 bags of dog food on my original order, plus a free bonus bag, and she gets to meet Muttley and Ember. I'd call that a win-win! I will be carefully wording a kudos review thanking her for going above and beyond to resolve this issue, without getting into specifics. 😉 I'd better figure out how many more 5 gallon buckets I need to bring in and clean up today in order to hold another 208 lbs of dog food, as well as another 36 lbs of cat food that I thought I was waiting for a shipping label to return, but now get to keep. Actually, I already have the clean buckets for the cat food - they were part of the stuff I brought in when I cleaned the barn earlier this week. I use 4 gallon buckets for the cat food so I can tell at a glance whether I am getting dog or cat kibble. I also label them, but since I keep a 4 gallon pail of cat food in the kitchen to scoop from, it just makes sense to store in 4 gallon measures. I plan to go get more round bales today, too. It's supposed to start raining by this evening, and I'd rather get hay home before that happens. Looks like a rainy week coming, so today is my best window. While I'm out, I plan to hit the ATM to withdraw Abby's rent and cash from my own account, too. With the possibility of cyber attacks that could disrupt banking, I just feel a need to have more cash on hand. I also pay cash for bulk grain and hay, so I like to keep my cash reserves topped up for that.

MY freeze-dryer is a dvia!! Seems if I remove the seal and give it a nice bubble bath it will again do what it was designed to do, lol. If all I have to do is wash the seal between loads, then it runs...I can deal with that. It is much less aggravating then fail after fail loads. The chili that is in is taking longer....the silicone forms I froze some of it in are thick. Not to self, when buying more get more shallow ones Freezing them (anything more liquid) in forms and popping them out create more surface area, so it does better. I have 2 dozen eggs freezing now for the next load. Each tray should hold 18 eggs....I'm putting 12 on each first time out. Once done I'll powder it for storage According to all the people I have seen on You Tube, they rehydrate and work like fresh eggs. Just can't make fried eggs...as it's already scrambled up, lol. So this year, we will freeze dry a bunch of our surplus that we don't sell...verses feeding back to the chickens. I like that solution....but they have yet to be told....
