Are you prepping?
Do you have a list? Are you getting it done? You have all month! Maybe into next month too. Don't forget, winter gets cold. People need a lot of energy to stay warm in the winter. Put up what you can in any way that you can.
Summer is so super busy, take time to take care of yourself too. Assume the position, feet up, cold drink, soft breeze.
60-100 qts tomatoes ketchup from paste (have paste)
salsa
chili sauce of some type
qts of corn qts of green beans, this will be a bigger year for beans for us if they grow qts of sweet sour pickles When I find fruit on sale, probably at least a few cases of fruit puree, maybe strawberry or cherry, possibly some raspberry
no apple sauce unless we have apples, but we may no pear sauce unless we have pears, but we may mustard, done beets carrots
fermented: a fresh batch of fruit waste vinegar for the year
frozen: chopped red peppers minced garlic
dehydrated: anything we need to keep and we aren't canning it zucchini, greens, squash, hot peppers (must find), cooked root vegetables maybe.
Dried goods:
oatmeal, 9 grain flakes, black and red beans, soy beans, pinto beans, garbanzo beans, dried fruit, flax, chia, nuts sparingly, limited ww flour, red wheat and white wheat, alternate grains, wheat gluten, baking powder done, baking soda
First aid kit: mostly done Toiletries: soap and shampoo (make fresh soap), toilet paper (have clothes and buckets if needed) almond oil for moisturizer Laundry: grated fresh soap, washing soda, borax (need to stock up)
This is my unfinished list that needs concrete amounts and to be spread over July, Aug, Sept, Oct.
If your June List is finished or unfinished, or you want to follow up on it, it's moved to the Prep Journal Archive, the thread is open for edits and additions.

I don't really have a list this month. I'm concentrating on bigger things. In June we insulated a 12 by 24 storage building creating an almost weather proof storage area and a workshop for wood working. In July I will have a portable whole house generator installed. An electrician friend took it in trade and I got a really great deal on it. It's big enough to run my well and air conditioning. I am so stoked- never thought I could get the house on generator power.

This month I'm just trying to survive. Still working on wood at Pap's house....still trying to get someone to fix the driveway so we can sell it...BIL is making things stressful! Add no that my brother spent 50 hours in the ER, they finally got him into a room today. I drove up and visited with him for 4 hours today. We played cards....I love cards!!...no one ever wants to play cards with me, so even though I had to drive 2 hours to the BIG city and sit in a hospital that doesn't screen people , I got to play cards!!!! Oh, and hubby retires at the end of the month. He hasn't even started looking for another job, yet. So no guess what we will be doing for income and insurance....

adinwnc , that must give you a sense of security, the house generator. I'm especially sensitive to security issues and how necessary the house generator is, so I'm very happy for you! Woo hoo. Ohio Dreamer , I like cards but I only know a few games and I'm really bad at playing poker. i'm happy you got to play cards. I hope your brother is okay. How is he doing? The weirdest thing just happened. A place that I haven't worked for 17 years, an employment agency, called me with a job, of the right type. Its location is too far away. He asked if I would consider it if it was close to home. They might move it closer to me. I asked where they had offices closer, but it was still too far away. I hadn't put my name out there, or my resume, so I'm not taking it and more than that......I'm wondering if that was just a sign, for your husband. Maybe look back at previous friends/positions/companies, and hope for a call out of the blue like that. Even just mentioning in passing that he is looking, might fall on the right ears.

feather, I hope past places don't call Hubby!! The past place was the US Coast Guard, lol If they want an overweight-aged man back....then I'm really afraid Hubby's goal since jr/high school is to get a job with a company and stay till retirement....come double hockey sticks or high water. He should have left this company 15 yrs ago, but was too stubborn and refused to give up on his childhood goal (I'll say no more....but I want to )....but he stayed, so no "past" companies to call out of the blue. Sure was a GREAT thought, though!

I asked mr feather, are you okay with me taking this job, with canning season on us I know you can handle it. He just stood there, very afraid, so no it wasn't as sign for me. That leaves direct contact for specific jobs, temporary agencies that lead to permanent positions (some companies only hire this way), and regular agencies (in your local) and monster and indeed. Let the opportunities unfold for him.
Good LUCK and I'll pray a prayer for him too!

I really only had a couple things on my July list. I wanted to survive the fair, get things put away after, keep working on the garden, get some pain relief for my knees and build a green house and sunroom, with help from the neighbors. Well, I survived the fair and have most of the stuff stowed away under my bed again, have done as much as I could in the garden, and have had the first of 3 gel shots in my rt knee, as well as a steroid shot in the left. I get another gel injection this Thursday, and am getting a tiny bit of relief already. However, I'm running out of time to get the greenhouse and/or sunroom built. I have a town day on Thursday, with 2 doctor's appointments and a visit to the county fair in between, and an out of town funeral on Friday. That only gives me 4 days of building time, and that's only if the neighbors are available. So, that one might have to move to next month, but the main helper I need for the greenhouse is going back to work after a month off, so I'll lose that help if I wait. I'm still in too much pain on rough ground to do it all myself. On the bright side, I was wondering what I was going to do for a door on the greenhouse. Thursday, while I was in town, I went past the glass shop and low and behold, there was a door out back in the "free for the taking" spot - a standard exterior steel door off a business, with glass from top to bottom, with just a metal frame around it. That will be perfect for the green house.

Got out in the garden this morning and harvested the rest of Potato Plot #1. In total got 1-1/2 buckets (5 gallon buckets) of potatoes. This was the plot I didn't water. Our basement is too warm to keep potatoes all winter, so this first digging I will "put up". Sliced and balanced 4 trays worth that are now pre-freezing. Shredded and balanced 5 trays worth that are cooling more on the counter before putting them in the freezer. They will all get freeze-dried. I still have more potatoes to deal with on the counter. They will have to wait till tomorrow when I put the first batch in the freeze dryer (I need freezer room) then I'll cube these and blanch and pre-freeze. Now I'm sitting in front of the fan trying to cool off, lol. Glad it's cool out today, can't I imagine boiling all that water in 90+ degree temps..3 manygoatsnomore , glad the shots are starting to kick in for you. I know a few people that have had them.....seems to be hit or miss if they help. They couldn't try that on hubby....he's allergic to prednisone (yes, I know how absurd that sounds) so no steroids for him. Surgery has helped, but he's not pain-free. But he is functional. He's only 2 months post-surgery, so it may yet get better.

Ohio Dreamer, I'm hot just thinking about all that blanching, lol! It's been in the 90's for about a week, but the weather is supposed to break a bit this week - only 80's tomorrow. I'm not sure if the gel shots are working or not - if I don't take the pain pills, I sure still feel the right knee. With pain meds, a knee sleeve and not over-using it, it's bearable. The steroid shot in the left knee didn't do a lot this time, and the doc has put in a request to my insurance to do the gel shots on the left knee, too. Refresh my memory...did your dh have a total knee replacement or a different surgery? I've finally come around to accepting that if the gel injections don't work, I WILL be having knee replacement surgery. Anything to prevent the knee pain that keeps me from doing all the things I love. When I saw my sister Friday, I said she was not happy with her knee replacement, but she is extremely overweight, doesn't get much if any exercise, and probably didn't do everything the PT folks told her to do. In talking with my niece (her dd), she agrees with me that if my sis had done all the doc and PT folks wanted from her, she'd be doing much better. I'm much more motivated (and 13 years younger), so I think I'll do much better with the rehab. I really want to be able to dig in my garden, get down on my knees to weed, haul feed and hay, wheel loads of compost and dirt, and maybe even ride horses again. I'm not much for just sitting around - it's boring me to tears doing it now! Final July Prep To-Do List review? Didn't get anything more done on the greenhouse - unloading the door doesn't count. I need to make a better effort in August. I did talk to one of the neighbors today about working on my old Nissan Kingcab pickup. They are my best egg customers - they even insist on paying me $10 per 18 pack of smaller eggs! I've told them that's too much, but they say the eggs don't upset the wife's gut like store eggs do, and that's worth everything to them. The hubby is a mechanic, and they work on a lot of cars at their house. They're always asking if there's anything they can do to help me out, and I actually brought up the squealing noise from the engine - it's not the belts, and I think it's likely that the pulleys need replaced. So, I guess August's list needs to have Nissan rehab on it. I need to fix it up - still need to sand down the hood and front quarter panels for repainting, and I have a bunch of replacement parts that just need put on. It was one of the projects Tom and I were working on. I know he'd love to see it finished up and totally roadworthy again. Plus, it gets around 20 mpg, which is much better than my big pickup. The AC needs charged for driving in summer weather - again, I have all the stuff except the actual valves and tubing for draining and refilling the system - Tom had those. I will also need to clean the carpets and seats while it's really hot - it'll be good to have them dry quickly. So, for August, I'm thinking roofing my house, fixing up the Nessan, building either/or a sunroom/greenhouse, continuing to garden and preserve, finish getting the community fair jobs done for the year and work on home ec entries for next year (canning, dehydrating and freeze-drying), get the storage sheds built for hay and put in enough to get through the year, or at least to save until it's hard to find hay next spring, finish the shots in my knees and pray they work, and probably much more I'm not bringing to mind. A few of those jobs are time-sensitive, meaning they must be done before the weather turns. I'm exhausted even thinking about getting it all done.

manygoatsnomore, no, knee replacement or partial knee replacement would be the next surgery. He just had his torn meniscus "cleaned up". They took a lot more then they thought they would need to. My guess is he will need a replacement in the not to distant future.
