It's now fall! Well, almost, but September is a new month to plan our preparations. On my list for the month: Plant out seedlings for fall garden. Weed area next to the foundation for making a cold frame Hang up any lingering winter sowing jugs (Yes, feather, I laughed at your jugs hanging in the tree, probably washed and drying) Save seeds Pick and can pears Can vegetables from garden (Please let the canning weight come soon) I'm sure there is more...

Call diggers hotline. Rototill and remove stones from new area of garden. Have the aged manure brought in to rototill in. Check the integrity of the plastic on the cold frame. (these were the shower curtains) Canning-tomatoes, soup starter, pears, pickles, green beans Dehydrating-shredded zucchini Seeds-onion, summer savory, thyme, squash, annual flowers, coleus, hibiscus, hostas Freezing-diced red peppers, diced onions, steamed kale and chard Fermenting-vinegar bottling it, sauerkraut. Inventory grain/beans/rice/seeds and restock. Inventory dehydrated fruits and vegetables, teas, and herbs, label the cases the jars are in.
Writing this list just makes me feel tired. I'm going to forget about it and then check back at the end of the month and see how we did.

Called my friend that has a farm market. Ordered a case of zucchini. Picked it up today. Half is shredded and in trays freezing for the freeze dryer. Once done I think I'll powder some for zucchini flour. I can see adding a few tablespoons to soups, stews, bread, etc in the winter to boost the nutrition.
Pap's house closes next week!! Hubby met the buyers, a nice family. Glad a family got it and not an Air BnB kind of company/group. Being in the heart of Amish country and being a unique property....I could see that as having been a high possibility.

I read in two different places that there may be a tomato shortage which will lead to higher prices and empty shelves this winter. I can only freeze tomatoes this year so I stopped at Aldi and bought 2 cases of assorted tomato products and 6 cans of chili beans. Speaking of empty shelves, frozen potatoes have been scarce for almost a year. I don’t know why this is but I’m thankful that we have our own potatoes, and I have no need to buy the frozen ones.
