November already, full moon today.
I don't have a list made up for November but I do know I want my christmas baking for DS and his roommate to go out early this year, hopefully the first week in December. Some of those things will have to be made in november and frozen.
Trapping season starts this week. Hunting season for many people.
manygoatsnomore, where have you been lately? How are you doing? Miss seeing you and your posts!

Well, I got everything done on my October to-do list EXCEPT taking down those two dead pines in the front yard. I mean, they've only been dead three years or so (maybe more though), what's the rush? I guess we were tree-d out from dealing with the after effects of too many falling trees. Maybe this month we'll get to it although dh is making noise that leads me to think it'll be part of the spring clean up. So, no list for November yet. We did get the furnace filter changed (I'm stealing this one from what midtnmama posted above). As usual, living in Dust Central, the old filter was absolutely disgusting. I've planted both lettuce and chives in the downstairs garden. Well, the chives are actually scallions but they don't grow all that well indoors (or I'm too impatient) so I pick them early and call them chives. They give a great boost to salads. I was going to plant a pot of basil today. I brought in the soil to make sure it was warmed. I dragged in a big, clean pot from the garden shed. Then - as has been happening lately - I got sidetracked by fun stuff outside in the gorgeous weather and...the basil did not plant itself. Go figure. So I have one thing for my list: Plant basil in basement garden. More to follow.

Well, we have an impromptu remodel happening. The faucet quit working on the tub/shower. It's been "broken" for a few years, but we have just been living with it. It stopped working altogether. DS did plumbing for a bit, so I asked him to switch it out for us. "Sure" (with a bit of sarcasm in his voice). Wednesday we got parts and worked on it for 5 hours before he had to go to work. One solder didn't seal The next morning he would be here was Friday....He texted from work Thursday night he had to work over, wouldn't get off till 2 am (he works 2nd - 2-10p).....then had to be back at work at noon! So very few hours available on Friday to work on it. We got as much prep done as we could do before he got up....after an hour and a half, it was still a no-go. Next step....pull out the wall. Just can't get to it from "the back". Can't buy just one panel of a surround so we had to buy and entire surround (found one we could afford at Lowes) so we pulled al of the old surround down. The drywall behind the existing surround is wet and moldy (which we knew before this). Whoever put it in used "standard" drywall, it was 2 layers thick, the back layer is likely the original 1958 drywall...then another layer over that. So we cut out to the dry drywall. Since it's all torn apart we will fix the vent and drain pipe we haven't been able to replace yet. It constantly clogs to the point a shower turns into a bath....glad to be getting rid of the last galvanized! The plan had been to have this all professionally done, switching the tub to a walk-in shower. But we can't wait 3-4 months for a contractor to have time to fix it. It's our only bathroom. And the money we had planned to use for this (and other projects) was used to buy the house DD moved into. So the nasty tub will stay. May buy a "reglazing" kit and reglaze it. It's an old cast iron tub. So, we'll be fighting headaches till this is all done and the walls are sealed back up. We all have mold allergies... Then I'll pull out the can of Kilz, paint the bathroom with that then re-paint. Need to see what paint we have, would love to use something we already have versus buying more paint. I bet I have enough of the off-white the rest of the public areas of the house are, but I like the green that's in there. Wonder if previous owners left that can... On the upside, the rust-stained surround will be gone and we will have a white one Our water has a crazy rust level and mineral level. Everything is coated in something, lol. In one of our many trips to town we ran through McD's to grab sandwiches. While in the long line waiting DH kept looking next door at the car dealerships truck lot. He's been wanting to stop and see what prices are like...his truck is 13 yrs old. So we played Chinese Fire drill and I jumped in the driver seat and he walked over to the dealership. WOW...just WOW!! The new truck costs more then the house we just bought for DD to land contract off us!!! Who in their right mind pays over 65K for a truck (house was only 60K)!!??!! They did have a stripped down work truck model for 40K....really! 40K for a stripped down model?? How the heck does one replace a vehicle at those prices?? ETA: Whoo Hoo!! DS got the plumbing done this morning. He only had about an hour and a half again, only took him about 15 min Now DH is cutting out the vent, to make it plastic.....then dry walling (ug). At least nothing needs mudded as it will all be behind the surround.

Ohio Dreamer, I can certainly relate to the trials & tribulations of your bathroom rehab. Mine is done, but it was weeks in the doing. There was weird stuff with my plumbing, too. Luckily the manse belonging to the church at my corner was unoccupied at the time, & the pastor who oversees the tiny pastor-less congregation is a personal friend: they let me use their shower. I live in my childhood home. Dad had done lots over the years. Both powder room & full bath were past the point, though. As is the kitchen, but that's another story.
I'm glad you have something functional enough, and the mold, even though enclosed, is removed.

Wow Ohio Dreamer , what a mess! I'm so glad your ds got the plumbing done. I can empathize with so much of what you've experienced. The first weekend we were in this house - yes, the very first - a washer sheared off...something...in the bathtub/shower and the water wouldn't shut off. Then tiles started jumping ship - literally. It was like they knew what was happening. They started falling off the walls into the tub. Not just one or two, lots of them. Like your situation, this was our only full bathroom at the time. And while we, too, had planned on redoing the bathroom we sure hadn't planned on doing it immediately. I was like "No way! We just closed on this place YESTERDAY." But the bathroom became the number one priority. We did have a powder room (not the one we have now) so we could shut off the water to the full bathroom - no isolation valves meant shutting off everything. And we had a giant pink hot tub in the basement. Seriously giant and ugly as sin. But it turned out it was a good thing to have. We got one of those doggie shower attachments, hooked it up to the hot tub faucet and were able to use that as a shower until we got the tub/shower mess settled. Good times.

Wow! ohiodreamer bathroom issues and mold are the worst! I have two bathrooms that need cosmetic upgrades, but we are saving those for this winter (Jan & Feb).
It's a good thing that I didn't have a list for October. Work went crazy - think investigators and lawyers and 12+ hour days. Plus Auditors, physical inventory and next year's budget. They fired the regional president and the plant manager, and my boss walked out. I didn't get fired because the culprits admitted lying to me to cover their tracks. November and December will be bad too, but should be better than October. I've been in accounting for 40+ years and I have never seen anything like this mess.
The good news is that my stamina is finally back from having COVID in July. Vitamin C has really helped. I have started very slowly building back my muscle tone. I am way out of shape and that must change as soon as possible.
I have wanted to try Hubbard squash for a while now and I found one at the grocery store. Probably be selling them as decorations, but I will cut it, save the seeds and cook it. Hopefully we will love it.

Canned pumpkin, pumpkin pie filling, and those frozen blocks of squash are commonly made from giant blue Hubbards.
Your life sounds like it's been pretty stressful! Glad things are looking up.

Pumpkin pie filling is made from blue Hubbard squash. Who knew? Thanks for the tips.
I am hoping the stress at work goes down soon. The situation is insane.

Ohio Dreamer , water, showers......that is so hard to go without! I'm glad it all got fixed! adinwnc , it sounds like a big disaster, the auditing, firings. Our dept hadn't been audited for years, so about a year before I left I started working with the IRS auditor and the company hired auditors, and things were a mess from years before I even arrived at the company. It must have been super stressful for you. You must feel so relieved you weren't thrown under the bus in the process. That's a huge stressor. I hope things go back to--or become a better, 'normal'. I keep running into little things we keep on hand that we're running low on, that battles food fatigue. When eating from our stores, say, if it was necessary on a constant basis, then the same foods can fail to be interesting or flavorful. We ran out of wrights hickory liquid smoke, and we're almost out of Worcestershire sauce. Those went onto next week's shopping list. Check to see if you have salt and spices, herbs, lemon juice, nuts and seeds.
