Thinking ahead to spring. Can Mr. feather suggest how to use a trap to catch the rabbits who munch on the earliest seedlings in my garden? Any advice so I don't catch my cats in them?

He says, he's never been a good rabbit trapper. Put fresh greens in the trap. If it is a live trap, it won't hurt the cats. Set the traps where they usually travel. He uses the lead poisoning method. A 22 that shoots long rifle (type of ammo). This will work on squirrel, rabbit, possum, and skunk. Rabbits go around eating early when the sun rises and at sunset too. That is generally when we saw them. Last year we had much better luck on our bean seeds with large swaths of the netting material over the entire area until they started getting bigger. Then we moved the netting to stakes we have around the beans, the material kept the bunnies out. (even though it wasn't an actual chicken wire fence) We did this in and around the stuff we planted at the cattle panel arches too. We'll be reusing the netting (though it has many holes) this year.
This is a flat bean patch with netting.

I love the net method! How do you hold it down so the wind doesn't blow it?
I usually just sprinkle blood meal around the plants. It's organic and full of nitrogen.

Holding down netting we use the same method for holding down landscape fabric, landscape staples. Available at Walmart, amazon, garden stores.

I tried several ways of holding down the netting. birds just pulled it off! And I had to net the inside AND outside of the hoophouse. Big pain!
I'll probably try to do it anyway!
