I dearly love, love our little Stihl MS 170 gas chain saw.. It is a brute for its size, light, easy to handle for an old guy... When the time comes I would buy another one in a hot second... I've had other brands, but will default to buying Stihl until I check out..
I've been reading a lot of comments about both electric and battery chain saws... Virtually all the comments about both from Stihl have been over the top better than any other brand, or size...
So the question is... Anyone have a corded electric saw and especially if you have a Stihl, I would like to hear about it..
Even though I have read good things about the battery saw, I have had dismal luck whit most any battery power tool... I have used Sweeties old cordless drill a lot, but again that was hers to begin with.. Not one I had any input about buying..
Experience, facts, details, thoughts ?? ??

I really liked Stihl gas chainsaws. I had others at first but when I found Stihl it was all I would buy. All the loggers here use Stihl. Good dealer. I had a corded, hated it. It was not new, someone discarded it at the recycle center. Hated to be tethered to the cord, same as I didn't like a corded weed-eater. I have the 12" Ryobi battery 18v lithium chainsaw. Love it, I wanted the 12" model, paid more for it for the auto chain oiler. I had Porter Cable cordless regular 18v probably 8 yrs old. The batteries went bad. Wanted lithium, went Ryobi. DS bought both for me to build his cabin. Really like the Ryobi, lot more power so we went Ryobi chainsaw. We are 12v off grid here so cordless works best....James

Love the battery tools. I can charge them on the way to a different property. Car or RV. I have built a whole cabin with the 6 1/2" circular saw, a speed square, Stanley toolbox hand saw and a 1/4" hex driver. We have since bought a cordless router for furniture making. And a jig saw for building the RV. I had a Craftsman corded router for 50 years and it finally quit. This Ryobi is so light and freeing, no cord. I did say I hate cords. No more noisy generator....James

Tim Horton, jwal10, I really appreciate this discussion. We have had so many problems with our chainsaws that I see this as a big improvement. We use this sooooo much on the farm.

We had big Stihl chainsaws and went through a couple of their brush cutters when I lived in the country. They were good quality; the ex is terrible at maintaining things. They were very heavy for me. I have limited need for either here. I own a little "Oregon" brand plug-in chainsaw I've used for cutting out dying Rose of Sharon and so on. After coupons I paid under $30 at HF. I have a good sawzall, but sometimes a chainsaw is a better choice.
