If no one minds I will start a place to talk about things like this.. I do enjoy using our compact tractor for things. And it is quite the "stamina extender" for an old guy getting things done..

I have had the brush hog mower on for a while now.. Did get some rough mowing done around the yard, buildings and such... Then the rain started and everything has gotten away from me.. I have a bunch of the big pasture to mow to knock back bush brush that is trying to creep back in and take over.. The pasture is rough as it is reclaimed forest. I run the loader bucket curled back and low to scalp high spots and knock down ant hills.. It is fun when you find an ant hill the size of a 20L, 5 g bucket to knock it down then hover over it with the mower.. Really messes up there day...

I also have about half the material on hand and plans for some 3 point attachment implements.. Had arranged with the local tech college to fabricate one off things for me as they are always looking for projects over and above there set curriculum.. The virus interrupted that, so far... If or when I get these things done, I can have about 6 adaptable implements at half the price of dedicated purchased implements..

Projects like a 3 point tool frame I can bolt on chisel plow teeth, arrange as row cultivators, use a "mole plow" sub soil shank to make channels for water to get deeper in the ground. I also have plans for a 3pt mount lifting hoist to use for wild game and domestic animal butchering.. This being a much handier option than just using the pallet forks on the loader..

So..... If you have tractor, implement, ideas, uses, suggestions, questions..... Please share..

Tim Horton, good idea. Feel free to add threads about tractors and implements. Once we get a few good threads, I can add a board and we can put all those threads in there. (and people can add anything they consider shop talk topics, welding, ropes, cars/trucks, etc and we'll add boards once it gets crowded.)

Can not believe I let this pass without my two cents worth. Tractors and their equipment are my down fall. Nothing like have twice as many as you need. Nothing like spending a day on a tractor out in the field.
Starting out small, have two garden tractors (not big box store lawn mowers). They are used around the home place for yard and garden chores. One was bought with out a mower deck and the other one has never had the mower deck on. Garden is setup so the GT (garden tractor) can been use for everything from working the ground up, to planting,to cultivation, and in some cases harvest. Digging spuds and other root crops is much easier done with the GT. One gets the snowblower mounted on it come winter. Some of the cultivation implements I have built, some bought. Fabricated the hitch for mounting the normally walk behind seeder to the GT.
Have four farm tractors. Well maybe three and a half. The Kubota is a little small to be classed as a farm tractor. It gets used to most because of having a front end loader. The other three are John Deere brand, ranging in age from 1953 to 1968, all bought new. They are all well take care of , the 1953 is getting a little tired, as is the operator a 1941 model.
Probably over stayed my visit on this subject, but love the topic.

Not at all, not at all. I didn't know you were a 1941 model. Congratulations, next year will be a big year for you. I can understand tired.

All we have is what we can handle and that's just a john deere lawn tractor, riding mower. It's questionable how well we can handle it and sometimes have to call for help to maintain it. We are neither of us mechanically inclined. Everyone has talents, we don't have this talent.

I am a welder/fabricator, OK was. I built a lot of things, truck beds, even the hoists, lengthened truck frames. Built trailers, even a 4 axle pull trailer with hoist and 8.5'x28' dump bed to pull behind a 1980 GMC Astro truck with 4 axles and a matching 8.5'x24' dump bed.

My favorite toy was a 850 JD 4 wheel drive tractor and a whole line of 3pt equipment. Most useful was a 6' S-tine cultivator. Used to fluff a horse arena, deep bedded barns, to cultivate the garden or plant pasture. It was the only tool I needed, no plow, disk or harrow. I had a drag bar and rolling basket behind that lifted with the cultivator that left a perfect seedbed. 2 passes and then a Brillion seeder was perfect. I also had a 12' one for the bigger tractors. Our ground here has enough sand in it to stay fairly soft. Good sod needs a plow to roll it over and bury it but anything else the S-tine works really well. I can use it with shovels or points.

Now, all I have here is a Merry Tiller. I cut my hay, pull the ride on cart to put the hay in to an entire assortment of rear tools to plant, hill, dig and cultivate. Doesn't get used much for gardening as I use the deep compost garden method now. Dig a hole or trench, plant and push the compost back in place....James

A JD 850.... The gear drive version of my old 855 hydro... I loved that little tractor.. It and I had some adventures..

We have the JD 2032R now.. A bit bigger, heavier, and more HP... MIL gave us an old 5', 5 shank chisel plow, a quite heavy 6'6" disk, I also rigged up 2, 4'6" sections of bent link drag harrow side by side. With 7 LT truck tires in 2 rows.. Front row of 3, back row of 4 all nested and bolted together..

In our ground I can pull the chisel about 8" deep if need. The disk I only have used 4-5" deep.. About all that is needed here.. The drag is good for breaking down weed stalks and even flattened the grasses will spring back first. I need to let a herd of goats or sheep graze it down to minimum and kind of start over, but livestock like that would be a bear smorgasbord here next to the lake and swamps and require 24/7 surveillance.. Knock on wood we haven't seen any, but the last thing I want to do is get a wolf nosing around.. Neighbor closer to the river has lots of trouble that way..
